Web Design involves many different skills and disciplines in production and maintenance of websites. Few different areas of web design include graphic design, interface design, authoring, user experience design, search engine optimisation.
Many individuals will work together in teams involved in the creation of a website, although some experts designers will cover them all.
The designs are differentiated by skills and techniques used in their creations.
Marketing and Communication Design
Marketing and communication design on a website will determine what works for its target market. This could be an age group, a certain culture, a special interest. The designer should understand the different types of audience and drive the design towards the relevant ones. Also he should have a great understanding of the types of websites and the importance in its design production. As example, a retail online store will totally differ from a B2B website (different type of content, the use of banners, specials etc.). Also the ease of use and navigation has an important role in the website creation, the clarity and readability of the content, the overall aspect, should all be taken in consideration.
User Experience & Interactive Designs
In this case, the designer should create a website that easily relates to the targeted user, making him understand the layout, clear navigation labels, clear instructions (content), clean links etc. Other user helping factor in its experience with the website is the interactive design. If the user’s perception of the functionality and usefulness of the website this user is more likely to continue using the website and ultimately return.
Is part of the first impression of the client in contact with the site. Either consistent throughout the pages or different from page to page, the designer should consider the flow of the design transferring the colours, fonts, positioning of the content from page to page. The responsiveness of a website has a great importance in its layout and design, the adaptability from a device to another, different browsers, transforming the sizes and position to suit the display and functionality. Responsive web design is imperative in positioning and placement within search engines.
Only few typefaces should be used in the designing of a website to avoid complications within browsers which recognise only a few selected type of fonts considered safe.
Should be implemented with few considerations.
A certain target audience (ex. business oriented) would consider the motion graphics as unnecessary and distracting from its real purpose. Motion graphics should be applied to entertainment websites, art and visual websites for decorating purposes. This doesn’t mean that more serious content couldn’t be enhanced with animation or motion graphics.
